Complete Guide to Sagrada Familia

Sagrada Familia is Barcelona’s greatest symbol and Gaudí’s most famous work.

Construction began in 1882.

Gaudí devoted most of his life to this church, but he passed away in 1926 without seeing it completed.

The number to remember here is 18.

Sagrada Familia is designed to have a total of 18 towers.

Twelve represent the Apostles, four the Evangelists, one the Virgin Mary, and the tallest central tower represents Jesus Christ.

This central tower stands 172.5 meters high.

In 2026, the centenary of Gaudí’s death, this central tower reached its final height.

Even so, Sagrada Familia is still not completely finished.

The large entrance facing the sea, the Glory Façade, remains as a significant unfinished section.

With a touch of humor, after more than 140 years, what’s left is a big entrance.

But at Sagrada Familia, even that entrance will be a masterpiece.

Here’s what to remember.

Sagrada Familia is Gaudí’s unfinished dream with 18 towers.
