Arenas de Barcelona
Centre Comercial

A former bullring transformed into a shopping, food and viewpoint space near Plaça d’Espanya, with one of the easiest panoramic views of Barcelona.

Why visit Arenas de Barcelona?

Arenas de Barcelona is not one of the most obvious monuments in the city, but it is a very useful stop for visitors. It combines history, views, shopping, food and family-friendly spaces in one single place.

For IWY Tour Guide, this is the kind of place that can make a visit easier: you can rest, eat, take photos, enjoy the views and continue your route without complicating the day.

Jordi’s practical tip

Jordi’s tip: you do not need to pay for the exterior panoramic elevator if you only want to reach the top. Inside the building, you can use the escalators and go up for free.

The exterior elevator can be nice for the experience, but if you are traveling with family or simply want to save money, the free interior route is the smart option.

What you can see from the top

Coming to Barcelona and not eating tapas at least once is almost a crime.

From the upper level of Arenas, you can enjoy open views of Plaça d’Espanya, Montjuïc, the Venetian Towers and, on a clear day, even the Sagrada Família in the distance.

It is not the highest viewpoint in Barcelona, but it is one of the easiest and most comfortable ones.

Family-friendly stop

A covered family-friendly space where children can move around, parents can sit nearby, and everyone can take a short break.

Arenas can be a very good stop if you are travelling with children. In the central indoor space, kids can move around a little, watch other children playing, and release some energy before continuing the visit.

In the afternoon, especially after school time, the area often feels more lively, with more families and children around. For many kids, that can make the stop more enjoyable.

On the lower level, parents can sit down, have a coffee, grab a sandwich or buy an ice cream for the children. It can turn a simple stop into a calm and pleasant family moment before going towards Montjuïc.

Where to eat nearby

El Mussol is one of Jordi’s personal recommendations in this area. It is a comfortable restaurant for a proper meal, with Catalan-style dishes and a good option if you want to sit down and eat calmly.

Tapa Tapa is a simple and practical option if you want tapas near Plaça d’Espanya. For many visitors, coming to Barcelona and not trying tapas would be a missed opportunity.

Best moment to visit

Arenas is especially useful before or after visiting Montjuïc, the Magic Fountain area, MNAC or Plaça d’Espanya.

If you are visiting Barcelona on Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening, this can be a very smart stop before seeing the Magic Fountain. The fountain shows usually run from 20:00 to 21:00, with music and light sessions at 20:00 and 20:30.

Arenas can also work very well as a soft stop in the middle of the day, when you need food, shade, toilets, views or a calmer moment before continuing.

Always check the official schedule before going, because the Magic Fountain timetable may change depending on the season, maintenance or city events.
